Mets win first game of the season 6-1

- Tom Glavine wins his second consecutive Opening Day for the Mets, and 9 wins away from his 300th win. He gave up one run on six hits in six innings, walking only one and striking out two.
- Paul Lo Duca led the offense, going 2 for 5, driving in three runs, and scoring one. He also made a fine tag at home to nail David Eckstein off a Beltran outfield assist.
- Carlos Delgado was 1 for 5, with a 2 RBI double.
- Shawn Green was 2 for 4, with a run scored.
- David Wright was 1 for 4, and made a great play in the first inning to turn a double play.
- Carlos Beltran was 1 for 4 scoring a run and driving in a run, he also threw out David Eckstein at home.
- David Newhan, pinch hitting for Heilman in the 9th, singled and scored a run.
- Jose Reyes turned two double plays and was 1 for 4 with a run scored. He was picked off first in what appeared to be a balk but was apparently legal.
- Pedro Feliciano pitched the 7th inning and gave up 1 hit, no runs.
- Joe Smith came in the 8th and gave up a hit, a walk, and struck out one.
- Aaron Heilman came in to relieve Smith, and was saved by a great play by Jose Valentin that he turned into a spectacular double play.
- Billy Wagner gave up two hits in the 9th but settled down to induce a pair of flyouts.
